Kathleen Lolley - Domovoi
“Families who need a Domovoi can attract one by dressing up, standing just outside the door, and saying, “Dedushka Dobrokhot, please come into my house and tend the flocks.” These guardians of the Russian household are small, hairy men, sometimes with tails or horns. Helpful around the house or in the yard, Domovoi can turn mean as a poltergeist if the family becomes slovenly in their housekeeping, uses foul language, or neglects their faithful servant. A neighbor’s Domovoi can also be trouble-bothering animals, stealing grain, or befriending other Domovoi and having loud parties, particularly in the winter.”
